When we are in the middle of chaos with a lot on our minds, it can go into a flat spin and end up in panic mode. It goes from one negative or self-deprecating thought to another until we have reached catastrophe or have no self-worth left to speak of. When we are in this flat spin of panic or worry, what can help is to focus on what we can control. Rather than worrying about all that is beyond our control.
A lovely tool which can assist us to manage panic and anxiety is the circles of control and influence and example is below:
Basically, we list what is a concern for us outside the circles of control and influence, then write what we can control and what we can influence, within each of the circles. It reminds us that there is a lot which is outside of our personal control and focusing on that is pointless. Giving us space to shift our focus, from the chaos, to what we can act upon.
You can download and print the version of the circles of control and influence here or simply draw circles.
On the back, list the things you can do, within your control, to manage the stress caused by the concerns which are outside your control.
I hope you enjoy this simple tool and share a comment below, of how you used it.
