Why learn to practice Mindfulness:
“The present moment is the only moment in which we are alive” and living our lives in the moment is fundamental to health and well-being. In the modern world, being in the present moment is increasingly difficult to attain, our minds are full, instead of mindful, so many things have been designed to distract us from this moment mobiles, text messaging, email, tablets, more TV channels than we could even watch in a lifetime and our lives are so busy we end up living on automatic pilot, whereby the week has finished, and we don’t even remember experiencing it, let alone enjoying it.
It is most common to think of well being as the absence of illness, and many of us are grateful that we have our health and are functioning within our lives, but take a moment to imagine what a flourishing life would be like where optimal functioning is possible.
What does practising mindfulness do?
Practising mindfulness re-trains your attention to be fully aware, attentive and opening curious in the present moment including awareness of your thoughts, emotions and sensations. Through practice, we become more mindful in everyday life.
